The photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) offer a

monasteries of old Russia, to the railroads and factories of an emerging
industrial power, to the daily life and work of Russia's diverse population.

The Evil Eye
http://curiousexpeditions.org/?p=211
It goes by many names; the cursing eye, sick eye, eye of envy, hairy eyeball,
sour eye, beating with eyes, the devil's eye, even the rather cute name "fat
eye". Regardless of what you call it, it is one of the most widely held and
deeply believed superstitions in the world. From the American South to South
America, Portugal to Poland, Iran to Israel, everyone fears the Evil Eye.
