The Great Pumpkin
Tired of having Halloween candy until Christmas? My wife heard about this
idea from another professional group she participates in. I've rewritten it
for here, and think it's a great idea.
In this person's house, the idea of leaving out food and drink for visiting
holiday figures (random red-coated saints, that springtime rabbit, and so on)
has grown to include the Great Pumpkin.
Yes, their children, along with Linus, wait for the Great Pumpkin each year -
but there is a twist sure to please parents and kids alike. After trick-or-
treating (or Beggar's Night, if you prefer), the kids pick out their favorite
section of the candy. The percentage, of course, will vary depending on how
much cra... candy... they've gotten.
The rest of the candy is left out for the Great Pumpkin, who will spirit it
away, leaving a small gift (or two) for the munchkins. The candy itself may
amazingly find itself at the parent's workplaces, or donated to food pantries
(check first!), or otherwise given to those who may deserve - but not get -
this kind of bounty.
